Catholic Church Built On Rock |
Denying their Master Jesus of His divinity who ransomed them by His death and crucifixion will bring swift destruction on themselves.
The pattern of false prophets among the Old Testament people of God will recur through false teachers in the church. Such destructive opinions of heretical sects bring loss of faith in Christ, contempt for the way of salvation, and immorality.
The false teachers will be punished just as surely and as severely as were the fallen angels.

Did Jesus create the Catholic Church?
In: Catholicism
He is the "foundation".
Yes, he did.
He did this by leaving his flock in the hands of St. Peter, the rock upon which
the Church is built. Peter was the very first pope.
Yes, Jesus
created His Church, The Catholic Church 2000 years ago. And She, this same
Christian Church, has been with us for all of those 2000 years and She will
remain as the Witness to Christ until the end of the World. The primary
difference between The Catholic Church today and when she was born at Pentecost
is that today's Church is exponentially larger, and more complicated to
preserve -- in terms of faith & morals -- than it was when she was much
smaller and located primarily in the Middle East.
The
Catholic Church is exactly what Her name describes: universal. The Catholic Church is the universal
Church of Christ. You can go anywhere in the world and the Catholic Church
is the SAME -- same liturgy, same doctrine and teachings on faith & morals.
Only thing that is different is cultural (i.e., the attire of the priest, the
music, the flowers, manner in which holy days are celebrated, etc.)
Christ asks Simon who He was and he replies "you are
the messiah the
Christ" and Christ responds by saying well done Simon for this truth did
not to you from men but from God. You will be called (in Greek) Petros (a
pebble) and on this Petra (rock) I will build my church. What Christ was saying
is that He is the foundation; He is the corner stone to the Church. He is also
the stone that the builders rejected as useless that turned out to be the most important of all
and nobody can lay any other.
"Wherefore also it is contained in the scripture, Behold, I
lay in Zion a chief corner stone, elect, precious: and he that believeth on him
shall not be confounded. Unto you therefore which believe he is precious: but
unto them which be disobedient, the stone which the builders disallowed, the
same is made the head of the corner," 1 Peter
2:6-7,
The Roman Catholic Church claims that Peter is the rock that the
church is built on. They say that Peter is the first Pope who stands in the
place of Christ. This position is known as the Vicar of Christ. This is the
lineage through which the present Pope receives his authority. Today, the Pope
is still the authority that the Roman Catholic Church is built on.
"VICAR OF CHRIST" - Successors to PETER THE ROCK the First Pope |
The
Catholic faith emanated from God from the beginning of time, and was
established on earth definitively from the side of Jesus Christ on the cross
outside of Jerusalem when his side was pierced by a spear, around 33 A.D. Then
it was shown to the world at Pentecost with the coming of the Holy Spirit,
fifty-three days later.
One
interesting note: The Bible (the New Testament) was written entirely by early
Bishops of the Catholic Church, and the books that we have now - contained in
the New Testament, was approved by the Catholic Church at a Council of the
Catholic Church, which is interesting as the Bible is often cited as an
authority, and actually the Bible is nothing other than the preaching of the
Catholic Church, it was never intended to be an Encyclopedia of all knowledge
about the Church of Christ.
If you
read the Bible, itself, you realize that the only one that Our Blessed Lord,
and His apostles said would contain all knowledge (necessary for salvation) it
is the Church, NOT the Bible. In other words, Jesus created the Catholic
Church, and the Catholic Church created the New Testament.
"PETER THE ROCK" - Holder of the Keys to the Kingdom of Heaven |
When
Jesus spoke those words to Peter: "Peter, you are rock and
upon this rock I will build MY Church. . . "Jesus spoke in Aramaic,
not Greek. In Aramaic, the word for rock & pebble are the same: Kepha. When
Jesus' statement was written ("recorded") in Greek, the writer used
the masculine form of "rock" (Petros) to identify a male, Peter,
instead of using the feminine version (Petra). Also, pretty much all
non-Catholic Christian Biblical Scholars today accept that Peter is the Rock
upon which Jesus built HIS Church. What was questioned & debated now, among
biblical scholars is whether Peter's authority is handed down to successors or
whether that unique/singular authority that Jesus gave to Peter ended with
Peter. The authority of which I refer is the REST of what Jesus said to Peter
in front of all the apostles.
PETER’S CONFESSION OF CHRIST
13 When Jesus came to the Region of Caesarea Philippi, he asked his disciples, “Who do people say the Son of Man is?”
14 They replied, “Some say John the Baptist; others say Elijah; and still others, Jeremiah or one of the prophets.”
15 “But what about you?” he asked, “Who do you say I am?”
16 Simon Peter answered, “You are the Christ (Messiah), “the Son of the living God.”
17 Jesus replied, “Blessed are you, Simon son of Jonah, for this was not revealed to you by man, but by my Father in heaven.
18 And I tell you that you are Peter (Peter means Rock), and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of Hades (hell) will not overcome it.
19 Will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven; whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven.”
All these new
churches are in contrast to Jesus’ own holy words to Peter the Rock that upon
Peter He will build His church and at the same time giving Peter the keys to
the kingdom of God and that whatever Peter and the church will bind on earth
shall also be bound in heaven that no one and even the gates of hell can
prevail against it.
In the later years the universal church of Jesus Christ was named as the Catholic Church (the word universal means catholic) to distinguish it from other heretic and pagan churches that abound.
In the later years the universal church of Jesus Christ was named as the Catholic Church (the word universal means catholic) to distinguish it from other heretic and pagan churches that abound.
Everything
was in tune with Jesus' instruction that whatever Peter and the church will
bind on earth shall also be bound in heaven and that whatever shall be unbound on earth shall likewise be unbound in heaven..
This authority was only given to Peter and not to anyone else outside the Catholic Church then and now. There could be no other way to interpret this authority and there are no other verses or other prophecies that would change the whole exact meaning of Jesus' holy words whether they are literally interpreted or otherwise by non-Catholic churches.
This Catholic Church that Jesus built had endured and would continue to persevere in spite of the inequities from within and non-stop persecutions by anti-Catholic churches for 2,000 years up until now. This Catholic Church will continue to stand and thrive thru the end of days as promised by Jesus as it is protected by the Holy Spirit.

There are no
bible verses or prophecy in the New Testament that would have superseded these
holy words of Jesus Christ to Peter. Even the Old Testament has no books that
were written in regards to the keys to the kingdom of God
that was to be handed to Peter in the New Testament was prophesied to be given to a new pretender or founder or new
messenger then and in the future.
Likewise, there was nothing mentioned anywhere anymore in the New Testament while Jesus was still alive or even after His crucifixion that a new messenger will be sent anytime in the future to re-establish His church or that there will be an apostasy of His church after the death of the last Apostle St. John the Beloved.

If ever it
was to happen after the church was established when the Holy Spirit descended upon
the Apostles during the Pentecost, then it would have been made clear in verses
and the Apostles should have been forewarned that such event was to happen,
that the Catholic Church will commit errors and apostatize itself
from Jesus Christ. Anything like this would have been prophesied.
The authority
and power given to Peter was very clear and very serious and Jesus promised,
here, that essentially Peter would not ere on any matter of "faith
or morals" -- what Peter "bound" and "loosed" on earth
would be the Truth -- bound and loosed in Heaven as well. There's a lot more,
biblically, to this but it would take a lot of writing to explain and it's
already been done in tremendous detail. Therefore, any new founder of
a church of Christ claiming theirs is the true church of Christ is false and
all his teachings will be full of errors. It is written in the bible that such
false prophet will come after Christ.
How can a false messenger establish a true church or a false teacher teach truthfully?
Anything claimed by any church or founder that are in complete contrast to Matthew 16:18-19 are totally false. If a church is founded on a false interpretation and heresy its teachings will be filled with errors and falsehood and surely not inspired by the Holy Spirit.

Jesus never
said nor gave any indication that He will re-establish his church again in the
future not even in the 1900’s. Jesus has
guaranteed His church that the Holy Spirit Himself will always be
there to protect, inspire and to watch over until the end of time.
Any new
churches outside of the Catholic Church will only be self-inspired and devoid
of the inspiration from the Holy Spirit because Jesus had never meant to experiment his first church with Peter only to apostatize after the first century. God will never commit error in His Divine Son's choice of Peter as his First Vicar. If ever there will be, that mistake will only be committed by a self-proclaimed pretender-founder claiming to be an angel or messenger or any
ancient name or a Messiah in either Old or New Testament.
Mathew 16:13-19
There are new
churches founded by men that started from Muhammad in the 5th Century, then followed by the apostate
Catholic Monk Martin Luther who started Protestantism, then by the Calvinist
Protestants and the thousands more that followed thru the 20th Century that have claimed theirs is the true Church that Jesus Christ founded.
Some churches claimed that the Catholic Church has apostatized in the first century based on the Catholic's belief of the doctrine of the Holy Trinity and therefore the church is no longer the original church that Jesus had founded. And this lead to different churches claiming theirs now is the rightful church of God.
Matthew 16:18-19 "And I say to thee: That thou art Peter; and upon this rock I will build my church, and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it. And I will give to thee the keys of the kingdom of heaven. And whatsoever thou shalt bind upon earth, it shall be bound also in heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt loose upon earth, it shall be loosed also in heaven."

And whatsoever thou shalt bind upon earth, it shall be bound also in heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt loose upon earth, it shall be loosed also in heaven."
Thou art Peter: As St. Peter, by divine
revelation, here made a solemn profession of his faith of the divinity
of Christ; so in recompense of this faith and profession, our Lord here
declares to him the dignity to which he is pleased to raise him: viz.,
that he to whom he had already given the name of Peter, signifying a
rock, John 1:42, should be a rock indeed, of invincible strength,
for the support of the building of the church; in which building he
should be, next to Christ himself, the chief foundation stone, in
quality of chief pastor, ruler, and governor; and should have
accordingly all fulness of ecclesiastical power, signified by the keys
of the kingdom of heaven.
Upon this rock: The words of Christ to Peter,
spoken in the vulgar language of the Jews which our Lord made use of,
were the same as if he had said in English, Thou art a Rock, and upon
this rock I will build my church. So that, by the plain course of the
words, Peter is here declared to be the rock, upon which the church was
to be built: Christ himself being both the principal foundation and
founder of the same. Where also note, that Christ, by building his
house, that is, his church, upon a rock, has thereby secured it against
all storms and floods, like the wise builder, Matthew 7:24-25.
The gates of hell: That is, the powers of
darkness, and whatever Satan can do, either by himself, or his agents.
For as the church is here likened to a house, or fortress, built on a
rock; so the adverse powers are likened to a contrary house or fortress,
the gates of which, that is, the whole strength, and all the efforts it
can make, will never be able to prevail over the city or church of
Christ. By this promise we are fully assured, that neither idolatry,
heresy, nor any pernicious error whatsoever shall at any time prevail
over the church of Christ.
Loose upon earth: The loosing the bands of temporal punishments due to sins, is called an indulgence; the power of which is here granted.
FALSE
TEACHERS AND THEIR DESTRUCTION
1 But there were also false prophets among the
people, just as there will be false teachers among you. They will secretly introduce
destructive heresies, even denying the sovereign Lord who bought them –
bringing swift destruction on themselves.
2 Many will follow their shameful ways and will
bring the way of truth into disrepute.
3 In their greed these teachers will exploit you
with stories they have made up. Their condemnation has long been hanging over
them, and their destruction has not been sleeping.
2 Peter 2:1-2
